Connect 4 Online is easy to play but can be difficult to master and that is why we have created this page of advanced connect four strategy tips. If you have grasped the Connect Four Online rules and beginner strategies, it is time for you to learn a more advanced connect four strategy.
Horizontal Prioritization – Horizontal lines are the most obvious when playing Connect 4 Online and the easiest for your opponent to block. You can use them when you have an obvious advantage in this area. For example, when you have a disc at the bottom of rows 4 and 5 and your opponent does not have any on the bottom row of the board.
Vertical Prioritization – Vertical lines are not as easy to spot as horizontal lines and this is especially true when building them from the bottom of the board. If you have two discs in a row starting from the bottom of the column, build on this with your third disc to create a major threat to your opponent.
Diagonal Prioritization – Diagonal lines make for a great Connect Four strategy because they are the most difficult to spot. The idea is to build a diagonal line subtly, so your opponent does not see it until it is too late.
You need to be able to assess the situation on the board and choose to work towards a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal four in a row.
Forcing Your Opponent – You want to make your opponent do moves that benefit you. If you can force your opponent to place a disc in a specific column, you are taking control of their moves and limiting their options. The best way to do this is build a row of 3 discs so they must place their next disc in a blocking position.
Double Threat – Another advanced Connect Four strategy is to create a double threat. When playing Connect 4 Online, you must try and build two sections in the grid where you have a good chance of winning. This forces your opponent on the defensive and puts them in two minds. If they completely block one of your sections, you can move onto the second one and keep them on the back foot.
Try and use some of these connect 4 strategies during your next game and see if you can win.
